This program provides service dogs for families with children with autism
Our service dogs are trained to assist with sensory processing by providing deep pressure therapy, which can calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety.
Our dogs can be trained to help with social skills and communication by providing a non-judgmental companion and helping to facilitate interactions with other people.
With the help of our clients, we customize a training program that improves daily function of the child and their families.
The program is designed to train teams of 3:
● The parent/guardian as a main handler
● The child
● The service dog
To be eligible for the Autism Service Dog Program through Forever in My Heart Foundation, applicants must meet the following requirements:
A $2,000 training commitment is required prior to the start of the program. This helps support the cost of advanced service dog training, equipment, and program resources.
Be willing to learn how to properly work with a service dog, develop a strong bond with the dog, demonstrate the ability to correctly execute training tasks in public settings, and integrate the dog into daily life.
Commit to attending mandatory weekly training sessions at our training facility for a minimum of six months. Consistent participation is essential for successful team training.
Commit to maintaining the dog’s training for the lifetime of the dog. Ongoing practice and reinforcement of skills are necessary to ensure the service dog continues to perform reliably.
Provide a safe and appropriate home environment and demonstrate the financial and personal resources necessary to properly care for a dog.
