VETS VALOR PROGRAM

The Veterans Service Dog Program is designed to support veterans living with service-connected physical and/or psychiatric disabilities by partnering them with highly trained service dogs that promote independence, stability, and improved quality of life.

Mobility assistance

Service dogs can be trained to assist with mobility, such as helping with balance or retrieving items.

PTSD Sympthons

Service dogs help combat the symptoms of PTSD, such as anxiety and panic attacks.

Sense of security

Service dogs can help veterans feel more comfortable in social situations and provide a sense of security.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A $2,000 training commitment is required prior to the start of the program. This deposit helps support the cost of advanced service dog training, equipment, and program resources.

  • Be a United States Veteran with a documented service-connected physical and/or psychiatric disability.

  • Be willing to learn how to properly work with a service dog, develop a strong bond with the dog, demonstrate the ability to correctly execute training tasks in public settings, and integrate the dog into all aspects of daily life.

  • Actively participate in their healthcare plan, including following medical recommendations, taking prescribed medications, and attending counseling or therapy as recommended by their healthcare provider.

  • Commit to attending mandatory weekly training sessions at our training facility for a minimum of two months. Consistent participation is essential for successful team training.

  • Commit to maintaining the dog’s training for the lifetime of the dog, including regular reinforcement of skills and responsible handling.

  • Provide a safe and appropriate home environment and demonstrate the personal and financial resources necessary to properly care for a dog.

  • Comply with annual program requirements, which include:

    • Participating in public access testing sessions

    • Providing current veterinary records for the service dog

    • Submitting an annual letter from a healthcare provider confirming ongoing need and program participation
